June is recognized annually as Pride Month, an observance that commemorates the history of and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community while also raising awareness about the gay rights movement. Its national origin dates to June 1999, when U.S. President Bill Clinton signed a proclamation recognizing Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.

Each year, Pride Month events include parades, festivals, marches, memorials, and educational forums that are open to members of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as allies, friends, and family members.
